Happy Christmas To All .....

Carpe Diem Seven Days Before Christmas 2016 #7 Twas The Night Before Christmas

All it took was the title for me to be transported to another time and place.  A time when I was maybe 11 and the place was a small country school.  It was Christmastime so that meant a Christmas program.  Not sure why but Mrs. Bourland selected me to memorize the poem featured in today's challenge.  I am not able to recall all the stanzas but a few still come to mind....

twinkles a message
of love and peace

The Wall

Carpe Diem #1096 The Great Wall of China by Einar Englund,

With all the talk about building a wall along the borders of the US I must laugh.  The Great Wall of China, the Berlin Wall, and all the old walled cities of Europe.....

On Dec. 4 it was announced that the Army Corp of Engineers are halting construction at the particular location being protested by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.  The halt is for further environmental impact studies.  As the President Elect holds shares in the pipeline company I personally have serious doubts there will actually be a change to the location.  Because money and the promise of riches is so seductive.

serenade

Carpe Diem #1084 Serenade (Schubert)

Families gather round a table ladened with food.  A table that has passed through generations.  From a grandmother none of those present knew due to the 1918 pandemic.  We each one carry a bit of that grandmother's dna in our faces, bodies or smiles.  While Grandma Annie was never known, her oak table provides the place to spread a feast of love.

air

It is the time of year to change out the flowers on my parents' grave.  The cemetery is one of those perpetual care places.  Mom bought the plots, four at the time, in the 1960's.  Sissy and I were still kids at home so there needed to be four graves .... just in case.  Years later Mom gave two of the graves to my uncle in exchange for a car.  Now instead of my younger sister or I being there next to them, it is our first cousin.  A handsome man in his late 60's that died from complications of ALS.  There were no flowers on his grave...
